Migrant women are at work in Tuscany to promote health screening and prevention programmes among other women from their communities of origin.
'Escapes' - (Educatori alla salute di comunità per l'accesso appropriato ed equo ai servizi) is operational in the cities of Arezzo and Grosseto, where migrant women have worked in coordination with health professionals to inform their fellow countrywomen about local screenings and prevention programmes.
Cervical cancer screening in Arezzo
In Arezzo, the project has involved the Bangladeshi community in a cervical cancer screening programme. The level of participation in screening programmes by women from this national group is much lower with respect to their Italian counterparts (27 percent compared to 56 percent).
