The Italian region of Tuscany has opened enrolment for online Italian courses for migrants. This is part of the TRIO web learning project.
As part of the TRIO project an online learning system, financed by the European Social Fund (ESF), has opened enrolment for the first virtual didactic workshop in Italian for migrants.
The initiative is part of a series of workshops that are already underway in English. It is directed at EU and non-EU citizens who want to study or perfect their Italian.
'An anchor for integration'
"This is an additional anchor for integration as part of a policy of training and inclusion and an active policy of implementing permanent learning networks," said Cristina Grieco, Tuscany's Councillor for Education, Training and Labor.
The workshop is totally free, as are the approximately 1,900 courses and online learning services offered by the TRIO system. The courses include theme-based lessons and brief tutorials with final exercises. There are also quizzes with final scoring; webinars and online seminars for more in-depth study of basic Italian; work sessions with the assistance of an e-teacher who provides explanations, details and feedback on completed exercises.
Modules for language literacy and orientation
In terms of courses for language literacy and orientation for foreign-born citizens, the training is structured in a series of modules. These focus on learning Italian and providing information on local available services and on the rights and responsibilities of foreign citizens.
The goal of the training is to facilitate migrantss' integration through language literacy, knowledge of the area in terms of culture and institutions, and knowledge of the job market in terms of the rights and responsibilities and governing regulations.
