Migrant landings are continuing to be reported in Spain, in particular on the Balearic Islands. On Saturday, August 16, four boats carrying a total of 63 people were rescued off the island of Formentera.
A total of 63 migrants on Saturday, August 16, reached the coast of Formentera, a Spanish Balearic island and a popular tourist destination in August, on four boats that were intercepted by maritime rescue services and the Guardia Civil, the Spanish news agency EFE reported on Sunday, August 17.
The first boat, carrying 16 passengers, was tracked down at 1:50 pm local time on Saturday on the coast of Punta Sa Fragata, while the second, with 17 people on board, was intercepted at 8:30 pm on the beach of Es Migjorn, said the Government's delegation on the Balearic Islands.
Five minutes later, the Maritime Rescue Service and officers deployed by the air service of the Guardia Civil and the provincial maritime service rescued 18 migrants from another boat detected south of Formentera.
The fourth migrant boat of the day was intercepted at 9:05 pm in the area of Es Migjorn Cupinar with 12 people on board, including 10 migrants of sub-Saharan origin and two from North Africa.

Over 4,400 migrants reached the Balearic Islands in 2025
This year, a total of 235 boats have reached the Balearic Islands with at least 4,419 migrants, mostly from North and sub-Saharan Africa, according to figures published by EFE, based on data released by the government's delegation on the Balearic Islands.
In 2024, 5,882 migrants irregularly reached the archipelago by sea, according to the interior ministry.
