The dismantling of the tent city sheltering migrants who are seasonal field laborers in the Gioia Tauro area is among the proposals approved by the Prime Minister's Office.
The Prime Minister's Office approved the project plans presented by the Municipality of San Ferdinando for the urban and social redevelopmentĀ of the town under Decree 208 of 2024.
The plan includes the dismantling of the tent city hosting migrants who are employed as seasonal agricultural field laborers in the Gioia Tauro Plane. The Municipality's administration communicated this news.

10 million euros provided for interventions
The plan, funded with 10 million euros and set for completion by December 2027, includes infrastructure, social, and environmental improvements. Key projects involve replacing the tent city with a "solidarity factory," upgrading school facilities, renovating the Municipality Auditorium, regenerating Praja Village, and enhancing urban green spaces.
'Removing the tented settlement will remove a critical issue'
The mayor of the town, Luca Gaetano, expressed strong satisfaction, thanking Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and other government officials for their commitment, according to a public note,
Gaetano emphasized that "removing the tent city will resolve a difficult issue that represents a particular emergency and that worries everyone at the State level," he commented.
