A young Pakistani national will be deported after being reported to the state prosecutor's office for aggravated threats to a public official and attempted extortion while demanding the renewal of his stay permit.

The police superintendent of the Italian city of Bolzano on Thursday (March 20) ordered the deportation of a Pakistani national who had demanded the renewal of his stay permit while reportedly threatening officers.

Some days prior to the incident, an email had been sent to the public security station in Bressanone, in Italy's northern region of Alto Adige, by a young Pakistani national who was demanding the renewal of his stay permit, reportedly not complying with the times and legal procedures required in these cases.

Police officers threatened

The man reportedly told the officers that he had previously had problems with law enforcement and that he had no qualms about having more if his demands were not met.

The day after, the Pakistani man called the police station and demanded to be put in contact with staff from the immigration department. He warned that, otherwise, he would show up at the gate to the police station and destroy a police vehicle or anything else around to force the police to comply with his demands.

Man had a criminal record

Since the name registered with the number used to make the phone call was the same as that at the bottom of the email of the previous day, the police easily identified the 20-year-old Pakistani national who was a resident of the town of Brunico. The man had a criminal record for crimes against property.

The police contacted the man for an appointment. On his arrival, he was told that not only would his stay permit not be renewed but that he had been reported to the state prosecutor's office for aggravated threats to a public official and attempted extortion. The police superintendent thus issued a deportation order for him.
