An inquiry on a child who is only two months old and arrived from Morocco to Italy hidden in a grocery shopping bag led to a police raid with four arrests in Turin.
A little girl of just two months was brought from Morocco to Italy hidden in a grocery shopping bag to avoid border controls. Perhaps she was destined to be sold. This worrisome story was uncovered by the mobile squad of the Turin Police after an inquiry that led to four arrests on March 12.
The legal provisions, signed by a team of Public Prosecutors of the Public Prosecutor's Office, are against two couples of Moroccan origin. The first one is the one of the "couriers", the second one is the couple who was going to look after the newborn child in exchange for money.

Little girl taken to hospital for check-ups after long travel from Morocco
The aspects that remain unclear are still numerous. According to the investigators, the little girl -- who was placed on a boat in Tangiers and not registered -- was given to the first couple by the biological mother in Morocco.
After the arrival in Turin, she received a medical examination at the newborn hospital Regina Margherita due to the hardships suffered along the boat crossing, which was long and difficult. Then husband and wife found a family where to place the child while waiting for a definitive placement.
Approximately eight weeks ago the presence of the newborn child in Turin was notified to police investigators who rapidly understood who transferred the little girl by boat to Italy. The problem was that no one knew where it was.
Complex investigations allowed to identify the apartment of the custodians, the police agents raided the place at 11 pm on March 12. The little infant was found in good health and with the help of the rapid intervention squad of the social services of the municipality, she was urgently placed in the care of a family.
The Prosecutor for Minors, Emma Avezzù, informed of the case, launched the procedure to the child up for adoption.

According to the woman arrested the child was born out of wedlock
The alleged "couriers" (who have another two children) were placed under arrest. A judge for the preliminary investigations issued a precautionary custody order. The other couple was arrested in flagrante delicto for the crime of aiding and abetting clandestine migration; now they are under investigation although they have not been found yet.
The woman who allegedly brought the child to Italy told, before the Judge, a completely different story: "The child was born out of wedlock and the natural mother gave her to us because she could not keep her with her. My husband legally adopted the child, as Moroccan laws do not allow me to adopt her. He was the one who made the boat trip."
To further complicate things, there is also a very difficult relationship between the husband and wife who had already attracted the attention of the Tribunal for minors. The man was sentenced twice for abuse against his wife (one charge is definitive while the other one is under appeal) and a third legal proceeding is still pending.
To seek revenge against this last complaint, the man reached out to social services without even realizing the possible consequences. "And I believe her", said attorney Raffaella Carena, who is the legal representative of the women for the Court cases where she is the plaintiff and who now defends the woman.
It will not be an easy task: the aim is to recuperate the adoption documents in Morocco and find the biological mother.
