Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić highlighted Serbia's efforts in combating irregular immigration during a meeting with his Western Balkan counterparts on September 17, as part of the so-called "Berlin Process" in Berlin.

From the beginning of the year until September 2, Dačić stated that Serbia saw a 61.8 percent decrease in unauthorized border crossings compared to the same period last year.

The decline, as reported by Belgrade media, affected both entries (63 percent) and exits from Serbia (55.5 percent).

The interior minister also noted that the fight against criminal smuggling and trafficking networks, which profit from migrants traveling along the Balkan route, has been intensified. This was made possible through more effective collaboration with Europol and Frontex. Additionally, Serbia has seen successes in its efforts to combat organized crime, Dačić pointed out.

Bilateral meeting with German minister Faeser

On the sidelines of the regional meeting, Dačić held separate talks with German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, discussing the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in reducing irregular immigration.

The "Berlin Process" is an initiative launched ten years ago by then-Chancellor Angela Merkel to accelerate the European integration of Western Balkan countries.
