Slovenian authorities have said that the number of irregular migrants in the country has decreased by 4 percent on an annual basis, according to official data published on August 20. The number of entries by Syrian nationals, however, increased.
A reported 25,786 irregular migrants have been registered by Slovenian authorities in the first seven months of 2024, down 4 percent from the same period last year, according to official figures published by the police on Tuesday, August 20.
The official data showed the number of Syrians who entered Slovenia irregularly spiked from 723 to 8,720. July was the most intense month of the year in terms of arrivals with 4,543 migrants apprehended by Slovenian authorities, according to local news agency STA.

New migrant center opened in August
On August, 8 the Novo Mesto Police Department told STA that a migrant processing facility opened at the former Obrezje border crossing in Slovenia, near the Croatian border, allowing police to perform all necessary measures related to migrants in one location.
The center can accommodate up to 100 people at a time, which meets the current requirements. Migrants spend only a few hours there before being transferred to asylum centers, officials said.
