The Greek Coast Guard reported that at least three people drowned and several went missing after a boat carrying migrants between Turkey and Greece capsized early Friday.

The boat was found near the Greek island of Kalymnos, which is 20 kilometers (12 miles) west of Turkey. There were 15 survivors, one of whom was a child, according to AFP. The survivors said there were up to 24 people on the boat when it sank, according to dpa. Search and rescue efforts by the Greek coastguard and EU border agency Frontex were still underway.

Greece was a main entry point to Europe for migrants attempting to enter Europe after leaving Turkey until the Balkan route was closed. Hundreds of migrants have died in the waters between Turkey and Greece since 2015.
