Joude Jassouma, a refugee from Aleppo in Syria, arrived in France with his wife and daughter in June 2016 - one whole year after the family first embarked on their perilous journey, which involved crossing a freezing cold Aegean Sea in an overloaded rubber dinghy with a baby that was only a few months old. After finally reaching Greece, they were accepted into the EU’s relocation program. Today, they lead a happy new life in Brittany, in western France, but the horrific memories of the Syrian war and the risks the family had to take during their escape still haunt them.
