The video, titled "August Rain", is a collection of testimonies from Italian Red Cross volunteers working in activities linked to migrant welcoming and reception. The aim of the video is to highlight the concept that the Red Cross is always on the front lines for anyone, anywhere, without any distinction. "Faced with the migrant flows and the risks of a journey that is synonymous with death for thousands of people, the Italian Red Cross reacted as it historically always has: saving lives, supporting the vulnerable, working so that there aren't grey areas of pain and suffering, investing in integration projects," said Italian Red Cross national president Francesco Rocca.
"October 3 must be a warning date to all, from government institutions to civil society: you can't die just because you're looking for a safe place to stay, far from wars, hunger, and desperation," Rocca said. Italian Red Cross has received 100,000 migrants in 2017 Volunteers and employees with the Italian Red Cross have already received and supported more than 100,000 people since the beginning of the year, at Italian ports, migrant reception centres, and at Red Cross Safe Point kiosks. Among the many services it provides, the Italian Red Cross offers health assistance, clothing, food, water, literacy training, and guidance regarding the right to family unity.
