The northern Italian city of Bergamo is about to celebrate the winners of the fifth edition of the 'Schools Without Borders - A Voice for MSF' project on October 14. Among the prizes awarded by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is a workshop with photographer Fausto Podavini.
The Italian city of Bergamo will be hosting a ceremony organized by medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on Saturday, October 14 to award the winners of the fifth edition of "Schools Without Borders - A Voice for MSF."
Since 2018, the project has involved hundreds of teachers and thousands of students with the objective of raising awareness around humanitarian themes and the work carried out by MSF.
During the 2022 - 2023 school year, students worked on articles, podcasts, videos and presentations on pressing humanitarian issues. A jury made up of journalists and communication experts selected the most outstanding projects.
One of the top projects is titled "Human," and is an interactive installation focused on the importance of not remaining indifferent to current events involving migrants and refugees in the Mediterranean. Other projects looks at global issues like armed conflict, sexual abuse and humanitarian assistance.
The winners will be awarded a prize as part of the festival "Fotografica" in Bergamo, which includes a workshop with Fausto Podavini, the winner of two World Press Photo awards, who also is exhibiting his work at the festival.
Podavini, who was in Chad with MSF in 2022 to portray one of the worst floods in the country's history, will teach aspects of photocomposition, ethics as well as the impact of images on public opinion, with a focus on the use of smartphones and social media.
The project "Schools Without Borders" meanwhile has already opened its registration for the 2023-2024 academic year.
