In a post on the social media platform, the organization said that migrants were regularly sold, tortured and abused in Libya. ''We have gathered the stories and cross-checked the reports and fates of tens of thousands of people'', the association, which assists migrants at its center near the Tiburtina station in Rome, wrote. ''Today, given what is happening, we think it is necessary to give testimony.'' In the post, Baobab called for the establishment of humanitarian corridors to Northern Africa.

The organization published several witness reports that included the story of a migrant from Guinea. ''It was really hard there, traffickers are very dangerous,” he is quoted as saying. “If you don't have the money you become merchandise to be exchanged! One of them sold me to an Arab who then sold me to a Libyan. Can you imagine a person treated like an object? We were treated like that.''

A migrant reportedly told Baobab Experience that he was forced into ''a concentration camp for black people - because if you are black you are treated like a slave. They held me there because my family wasn't sending the money to release me, and so when I spoke with my mom they would put out a cigarette on my skin so I would scream in pain. I still have the scars on my arms. I still remember how painful it was.''

According to Baobab Experience, migrants reported that traffickers did not spare children. A  Nigerian migrant said her nine-month-old daughter ''died of hardship and cold in a prison'' where they were being held. ''We told the guards that she was sick but they didn't listen. They didn't give us medication and did not treat us.''

''We have gathered these reports to give a voice to those who are invisible, making public the sad story of contemporary humanity. It is not possible to accept this barbarity,” the organization wrote, calling the Italian government’s policies ''inhumane and murderous.''
