Among the over one million people who fled Ukraine to Germany are some 40,000 non-Ukrainians, many of them international students. Unlike Ukrainian nationals, they face high legal and bureaucratic hurdles.

We spoke to two Nigerians who used to study medicine in Ukraine and are trying to put their lives together with the help of the Tubman Network, an NGO that helps these third-country nationals with temporary shelter, mental health and emergency care, language courses, paperwork and legal aid.
