'Travel to learn' is a website containing an interactive map created by the UNHCR and the Italian education ministry in partnership with the Comitato 3 ottobre in order to facilitate a correct understanding of asylum and the living conditions of refugees in Italy using interviews, teaching tools and analysis.

"In Italy knowledge of the phenomenon is often restricted to aspects concerning the arrival of migrants and asylum seekers. Not many people are aware of the factors that drive these people to leave their countries, the difficulties relating to the journey and the violence that they are forced to undergo in the countries of transit. This lack of knowledge leads to a distorted picture of the phenomenon," reads the website. "The main aim of the project is therefore to provide elements of knowledge about refugees, allowing students to develop an awareness of the phenomenon and facilitating dialogue with the refugee population in Italy."

The stories of Tareke from Eritrea, Syed from Afghanistan or Aya from Syria accompany the students in the discovery of the world of refugees and migration [in Italian language]. Three 'itineraries' allow the students to become familiar with the issues concerning the condition of refugees, including persecution in their countries of origin, their flight and journey and reception in Italy. 

All testimonials have been devised for first- and second-year high school students. By clicking on a country on the map it is possible to learn the story of the three refugees, listening to their interviews and reading analysis on the local situation. The website also contains brief summaries on the history of immigration in Italy and relevant legislation, a glossary and other useful information including links to websites, documentaries, books and photographs.
