The project, titled 'Ti prendo in affido' (I am becoming your foster parent) involves 300 minors who cannot be currently housed in migrant holding centers.  The initiative, promoted in cooperation with the city's administration and local diocese, is aimed at providing a family for the minors in order to promote their integration in school and especially in the local cultural context. Enrica Zaccaria, a justice of peace at the juvenile court in Taranto, said the project enables ''foreign minors to get acquainted with our traditions'' as well as letting local kids get to know the culture of migrant children. The area of Taranto currently houses 300 foreign minors, too many for the local holding centers that are organized to host fewer children and teens. Zaccaria said foster care is also difficult because families need time to dedicate to the children and because of cultural and linguistic barriers. ''Yet trying to give these kids a chance for the future is worth it'', she said.
