Slovenian police over the weekend stopped 200 migrants who had entered the country in an undocumented manner from Croatia.

Regional media reported that the largest group of migrants, some 144 mostly from Pakistan and Bangladesh, were stopped in the Ilirska Bistrica zone of southwestern Slovenia.

Three traffickers arrested

Another 22 migrants, for the most part Afghans and Pakistanis, were discovered in a vehicle stopped for a check near Ormozh, while a group of another 34 migrants was stoped not far from Celje in the northern part of the country.

The police arrested three traffickers in the operations, while the migrants stopped will most likely be handed over to Croatian authorities.

Italian police hand over 11 migrants

Over the weekend, Italian police handed 11 people over to the Slovenian authorities after they crossed the border in an undocumented manner into Italy. Ilirska Bistrica mayor Emil Rojc said that the number of migrants in the area was rising.

''We are seeing ever more groups of people caught by the police, even dozens,'' Rojc told Radio Slovenia on the matter, noting that he planned to meet with the country's interior minister to discuss it as soon as possible.
