Bad weather in the countryside near the southern Italian city of Foggia has damaged 20 tents that were recently installed to host migrants employed by farms in the area, local authorities said on February 6.

were severely damaged by strong winds, local authorities said on February 5. Migrants found shelter from the cold in containers and shacks hosting other migrants in the countryside near Foggia.
Most tents damaged
The prefect of Foggia, Raffaele Grassi, met on February 6 with representatives of the Puglia region, the city council of San Severo, civil protection and police to discuss the situation. Most tents at the new camp were damaged, the prefect explained. "We are evaluating alternative solutions" to house migrant workers, said Grassi. "We will ask the Puglia region for more housing modules, like containers."
The housing complex built after the fire reported on December 3 last year included a total of 25 tents and 32 containers that hosted some 280 foreigners. A reported 130 lived in tents.
