''Hungary's decision to detain children who are asylum seekers in metallic containers is first of all inhumane and also illegal,'' said Save the Children, adding that ''this exposes children, many of whom are already extremely vulnerable because they have fled violence and were exploited by traffickers, to further serious risks." MSF along with Serbian Doctors Without Borders (MSF) issued a statement saying that ''we condemn the serious episodes of violence on migrants and refugees at the Hungarian border'.' MSF also said that over the last few months its team in Serbia ''has treated an increasing number of cases of repeated and cruel violence and degrading conditions by Hungarian authorities at the border between Serbia and Hungary''. ''People told us they were hit and forced to lay down on the ground while police officers climbed on them with their boots on.  Their clothes and shoes were taken from them while they were in the snow and  were forced to go back to Serbia barefoot despite the cold. Bruises and other signs that we see and treat reflect the types of abuse described,''said Christopher Stokes director general of MSF. Ester Asin, the director of the Brussels office of Save the Children, called for the European Union to intervene in the situation.  '' The European Union, which is founded on the defense of human rights, must not allow Hungary to move backwards on safeguarding and defending human rights, in particular those of children," she said.
