Five other families will follow in the coming weeks. They include at least one family member who suffers from serious illnesses and is in need of specialized treatment. The resettlement program is partly financed by tax donations through the Italian Bishops Conference (CEI). The Italian branch of Caritas is also participating. The Manfredonia diocese and the Capuchin friars of San Giovanni Rotondo will be hosting the families. ''We are pleased to begin this path alongside our Syrian brethren, who are suffering so much in their war-racked country and many of whom have been welcomed into refugee camps in Jordan,'' said Father Francesco Soddu, head of the Italian branch of Caritas. He added that ''the operation was made possible in part through the commitment and collaboration of the institutions, the interior and foreign ministries and international organizations (UNHCR and IOM) that facilitated their transfer to Italy.
