Works by French artists and Syrian refugees in France will be welcomed to Naples for the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia 2019 to develop a project for intercultural cooperation and to talk about the present through art.
The Napoli Teatro Festival Italia 2019 will be exploring the French creative scene and has set aside space for French artists and refugees in France from Syria and other countries. Their works will be welcomed to Naples in view of developing a project for intercultural cooperation supporting freedom of expression.
Thread connecting Syria of the past and present
The Napoli Teatro Festival Italia, slated to run June 8 to July 14, will focus on connecting Syria of the past with the tragic present situation. It will do this through the work of artists in exile in France, such as writer and director Wael Ali, dramatist Wael Kadour, and dancers from Nidal Abdo's Collectif Nafass.
The wide range of new visions from the post-migration artistic scene also includes Mohamed El Khatib, a French artist of Moroccan origins behind the Zarlib collective, as well as the eclectic works of the French artist Phia Ménard and the Carabosse company, the dance of French choreographer - son of miners of Italian origins - Alexandre Roccoli, as well as training of young foreigners living in Naples in a workshop under Julie Kretzschmar.
The issue of oppression suffered by indigenous communities in Canada is meanwhile dealt with by the director Robert Lepage with actors from Théâtre du Soleil under the direction of Ariane Mnouchkin.
The section was presented at Rome's Palazzo Farnese and consists of 11 shows to be staged thanks to a collaboration between Fondazione Campania dei Festival, under Alessandro Barbano, and Francia in Scena, the arts season of the Italian branch of Institut Français. It is being held on the initiative of the French Embassy in Italy with support from Institut Français and Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati.
