The organizations Intersos and Unicef have drafted a guide to help unaccompanied foreign minors train for a job.

A guide made by Intersos in partnership with Unicef is designed to help unaccompanied foreign minors to take advantage of the job training offered under Italian law. The guide is part of the program ''Intervention for the care, support and development of the expertise of minor migrants and refugees in Italy''.

Information for minors and operators

The Italian interior ministry said on its website that the document includes two sections: the first part provides useful information for minors on how to get the right education that will help them find a job. It includes advice on the right training, preparing the necessary documents, looking for a regular job. The second part includes useful information for tutors and operators who will need to deal with the realization of the minor's ''project for life'' in the respect of his or her identity and best interest.

The possible choices

The guide explains that minors between the ages of 16 and 17 who are transitioning into adulthood cannot work regularly under the law. It is instead possible for them to be part of a training process, a phase that can last between a minimum of a few months to three years, during which activities will help them learn a trade and obtain a qualification.

The book then explains the possible routes a migrant can take, for example, the possibility of going to high school after middle school or getting specific training for a job. It includes practical advice although operators and tutors are key figures before migrants turn 18. The book will be distributed in the coming months to operators at hosting centers and to underage minors and refugees.
