Britain's unelected upper house of parliament inflicted a blow Monday to the government's controversial plan to send migrants to Rwanda, by voting to delay ratification of the treaty with Kigali.
The NGO ship Open Arms, carrying 57 migrants, received a 20-day administrative detention order in Crotone, Calabria, for allegedly getting in the way of a Libyan patrol boat during a rescue operation.
The Finnish authorities have reported around 160 asylum seekers ‘missing’ after they crossed the country’s eastern border with Russia in the last few months. Some who went missing have turned up in other EU countries, but not all.
Over the weekend, hundreds of migrants have been rescued by the Greek and Cypriot coast guards in the eastern Mediterranean area. Some have also been reported missing after shipwrecks.
The Italian Red Cross will be tasked with managing the Porto Empedocle hotspot on the Italian island of Sicily after having run the Lampedusa one since June in line with a convention signed with the Agrigento prosecutor's office.
