Controversy has erupted after an Albanian television report showed officers, sent by the Italian government under Giorgia Meloni to guard currently empty migrant centers, engaging in tourism in the country instead.

A court in Vibo Valentia in Italy's southern region of Calabria has annulled the Italian state's decision to seize the migrant rescue vessel Sea-Eye 4, which was subjected to a 20-day administrative detention in October 2023.

In order to combat irregular immigration, the Netherlands began to implement additional controls at the borders with Germany and Belgium.

The British and German governments inked a joint plan to deal with eradicating migrant smuggling. This follows a BBC investigation which linked the German city of Essen to trafficking via the English Channel.
