Work opportunities and raising awareness about undocumented migration are two of the pillars of MENTOR, a training project for young people that involves Italy, Morocco and Tunisia.
A new training project called the Mediterranean Network for Training Orientation to Regular Migration (MENTOR) aims to create opportunities for professional growth as well as raise awareness and provide accurate information about temporary legal migration and the risks of undocumented migration to youth in Morocco and Tunisia.
The project is aimed at young men and women between the ages of 20 and 30, from the provinces of Beni Mallal, Khouribga and Fqih ben Saleh in Morocco, and the area of Grand Tunis in Tunisia, who are interested in developing a career path or a small business.
Training for young Moroccans and Tunisians
On the project's website, the main objectives are listed as: "strengthening cooperation between services for training, employment and youth policies in Italy (Turin and Milan), Morocco, and Tunisia; improving the skills of job counselors and practitioners working with young people in target territories to promote circular and temporary migration; increasing information for Moroccan and Tunisian citizens on legal migration opportunities in Italy and in the EU; and improving access to the labour market for young Tunisian and Moroccan people in their country of origin following training and professional experience in Italy (Turin and Milan)".
The project will create work groups in each geographic location, with study visits to Milan and Turin, awareness and information campaigns for young people in Tunisia and Morocco about temporary and circular migration, selection of candidates from the two countries and professional internships.
Applications due January 31
MENTOR is a three-pronged project. After an initial sign-up phase, 10 participants will be chosen from each of the two countries, and they will have the opportunity to complete a three-month internship in Italy. In this way, the young people will then return to their home country to complete their professional or entrepreneurial paths. Travel and stay expenses will be paid for by MENTOR. MENTOR was created through a partnership between the City of Milan and the City of Turin, and the Piedmont Labour Agency, in cooperation with Anolf Piedmont, which handles the project's activities in Morocco. The project is co-funded by the European Union through the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), with financial aid from the European Commission's Mobility Partnership Facility (MPF).
