Ahmed Bouderbalal has requested an ''independent and thorough'' investigation into the death of his brother Mohamed, a 36-year-old Algerian who died last Friday at the migrant holding center Malaga II in Archidona, Andalusia.''We want to know the truth, my brother did not come to Europe to commit suicide,'' Ahmed Bouderbalal, who lives in Paris, told local media in Malaga.

He also said he intends to be a plaintiff in the event of a trial.Mohamed Bouderbalal was among 577 'sin papeles', or undocumented migrants, detained since November 20 in the former prison which was converted by the Spanish ministry into a migrant holding center. He was found hanged in his cell last Friday. But his brother Ahmed doesn't believe he committed suicide and told a joint press conference with relatives of other migrants detained at the center that prison authorities refused to show him the body, photos or autopsy results.

Bouderbalal told radio Casena Ser that he has heard reports of people detained at the facility who ''spoke about beatings in the morning and night, they say there is little food and that they are physically and morally punished even if they are not criminals.'' The man has another brother who travelled from Algeria to Spain and who is detained there.The migrant holding center Malaga II has been criticized by MPs and NGOs over its treatment of migrants and has been denounced in a report by the Defender of the People.''My brother was athletic, a very vital and lively person who would never have taken his life. We want to know the truth''.The interior ministry has said that the autopsy confirmed the man committed suicide.Protests and incidents have been reported since mid-December at the facility after the start of expulsions of Algerians held there and because migrants say there is little food.
