One of the estimated 600 migrants who arrived at the Canary Islands archipelago between June 5 and 6 has died on the island of El Hierro.

The news of the migrant's death was reported by the EFE news agency, which quoted a spokesman for the regional health department. The migrant was hospitalized in critical condition after his arrival to the island, and died on June 6.

Authorities say some 516 people, including two small children, were assisted overnight between June 5 and 6. They were disembarked at El Hierro, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

More migrants arrived at the archipelago on the afternoon of June 6. The Spanish sea rescue service assisted two vessels: one containing 108 people, including 15 minors, and another with 51 onboard near Lanzarote, according to EFE.

The total number of migrants who arrived in the two days exceeded 650 people.
