The projects need to involve both ordinary volunteers and the young beneficiaries of international or humanitarian protection in order to promote inclusion, in line with the aims of the national migrant integration plan. In addition to the practical activities, the initiatives for the refugees must also include a 10-hour training module in citizenship issues (rights and responsibilities, services, the Italian institutions) and employment (the labor market, the types of permits of stay, workplace health, and safety).

Civil and community service organizations in Italy can provide for "an additional quota of volunteers to a total of 3,000 places, reserved for beneficiaries of international and humanitarian protection to help them integrate into the social life of the country by taking part in civic activities and improve their level of employability", a statement says.
