The prefect of Italy's northeastern city of Venice and the head of the Veneto regional branch of the Confindustria industrial association have signed a declaration of intent on the issue of social integration and job placement for migrants.

Venice prefect Michele Di Bari signed a declaration of intent on social integration and job placement for migrants with the head of the regional branch of the Confindustria industrial association, Enrico Carraro.

Role of Confindustria Veneto and Venice prefect's office

According to the declaration, Confindustria Veneto will raise awareness among industrial associations in the region on the issue of migrant reception.

It will focus on understanding best practices on the issue and implement them to foster job placement and social integration for those requesting international protection.

It will then -- in line with ways that will be agreed upon with the prefect's office -- set in motion promotional activities for those seeking international protection for participation in training courses for improving language skills.

The Venice prefect's office will send the information it gathers on best practices to other prefect's offices in the Veneto region.

Additionally, it will raise awareness among migrants hosted in government reception facilities about available training programs.

'Difficulty to find manpower'

Prefect Michele Di Bari said the declaration of intent is an attempt to further raise awareness among public and private actors on the issue of social and work integration for those requesting international protection.

She added that she hopes it will foster an information exchange between enterprises in the Veneto industrial sector and prefects on best practices for migrant integration.

The head of Confindustria Veneto underscored that "we have in front of us two important challenges: the migration challenge and the difficulty experienced by businesses to find manpower and skills."
