Italian authorities are facilitating an inquiry into violence that broke out the evening of July 10 at a migrant shelter for unaccompanied minors in Florence.
Italian police are working to identify 30 people who threw stones and bottles at a center for unaccompanied migrant minors where a brawl took place earlier this week (July 10).
Investigators suspect some residents of the village where the center is located -- Le Bagnese di Scandicci, located in the province of Florence -- might have participated in the stone-throwing, tired of ongoing nightly noise from the facility. Authorities have intervened on several occasions over past months to address calls of disorderly conduct at the center.
The two minors involved in the July 10 fight were transferred to another center in Florence on Wednesday (July 12).
Investigations over stone-throwing still ongoing
In the meantime, the noise coming from the shelter attracted the attention of approximately thirty people who gathered outside and started throwing stones and bottles against the building.
The military police were able to prevent the two groups -- the migrant minors and the protesters -- from clashing with each other. The police were not able to break up the situation until around 2:30 a.m. with the help of backup enforcement.
The two young men did not explain the reason for their fight. They received medical assistance at the San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Florence and were charged for the fight, resistance to public officer and aggravated assault.
