Two adolescents hosted in a center for juvenile migrants wounded each other in a fight on July 11 in Scandicci, located in the province of Florence.

A fight broke out between two adolescents in a home for unaccompanied juvenile migrants in Scandicci, located in the province of Florence. Two of the police officers who intervened also suffered minor injuries.

Disorders outside the center due to protesting residents

Along with intervening to break up the fight, police were sent to the center to handle a protest composed of approximately thirty residents of the nearby area who had gathered outside to demonstrate against the placement of the migrant home, which is located in the village of Le Bagnese.

While the fight between the teenagers brewed inside the home, stones and bottles were being thrown by protestors outside its doors.

The police came to prevent the two groups -- the migrants at the center, which is managed by a social cooperative, and the local residents outside -- from coming into contact with each other.

Situation under control after two hours

The situation returned to normal around 2:30 a.m., when the officers -- with backup arriving from Florence -- dispersed the protesters who had converged in front of the structure after hearing the fight between the two young migrants.

The wounded adolescents did not explain the reason for their fight to the military police and received medical assistance at the San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Florence.

They will face charges of fighting, resistance to public officers and aggravated assault before the juvenile prosecutor.
