InfoMigrants reporters Charlotte Boitiaux and Boualem Rhoubachi spent ten days on board the rescue vessel Aquarius in the Mediterranean Sea. The ship is run by the non-governmental organization SOS Mediterranee and started operating in early 2016.
SOS Mediterranee has been running search and rescue missions since February 2016. Aboard the former fishery vessel the Aquarius, it cooperates with its medical partner "Doctors without borders" to provide medical assistance to migrants in distress.
Who are the crew members who dedicate themselves to saving lives at sea? How do they cope with distress at sea, in midst of the immensity of water? And who are the people who risk their lives trying to cross the Mediterranean on small wooden boats or rubber dinghies?
