'No person is illegal': This picture shows Italians, refugees, and migrants in a peaceful demonstration in front of Rome's City Hall. The participants are calling for more solidarity for migrants and housing for all.
"The shortage of public housing, the loss of jobs and growing social inequality are not due to the presence of migrants", said the organizers of the USB labor union. "We are all equals, nobody is illegal."
''We ask for the right to a home, to use Rome's space'', said Aboubakar Soumahoro, a unionist who is a member of the USB's national executive and who immigrated to Italy from the Ivory Coast in 1999.
''The mayor keeps saying that we have to block the flow of people'', but ''those arriving in Italy aren't tourists, they come here because there is a war in their country. This demonstration means that, instead of sending soldiers to control people, we need to promote social justice and not a police state", Soumahoro said.
