For Carmela -- born in Palermo to Ghanaian parents but then adopted by a white, Italian family -- the Rainbow Choir has opened a door straight to the heart of Italian culture and society. But even this innovative scheme, a flagship project of the Consulta della Cultura, is no skeleton key to being accepted in Italy.
This short documentary follows Carmela as she prepares for the Rainbow Choir’s first concert post-lockdown. Carmela leads us through the struggle for the heart of Palermo that migration has sparked, as we see how the Rainbow Choir offers her an outlet rarely offered to children who are Italian in all but name.
