The program, titled 'The Way of Song," was held at the Citizen Center for Migration, Asylum and Social Integration. The evening celebration was organized to commemorate the conclusion of the Italian course "Bla, bla, bla: Italian in Images" held by the cooperative Programma Integra (Integrate Program). Laura Antonini of Programma Integra organized the initiative and said the evening was a way to review everything the students had accomplished during the two months of the course."Music is a universal language," she said. The Italian course used workshops in art, drawing, comics and screenwriting to help migrants learn the language. Antonini said the idea was to "create appealing activities to add to the Italian lessons that would create moments for socializing," adding, "Art is an important form of communication." Twenty migrants, most of whom were from sub-Saharan Africa, participated in the course, during which they met with illustrators and students from high schools in Rome. They made models of movie sets, masks, and drawings that were displayed to the public during the final evening. The theme of travel linked all of the projects together."We've already held various courses in which we've included art and poetry, and we will keep doing so in the future," Antonini said. Christian, one of the migrants who participated in the course, said he was disappointed the course had only lasted two months, and would have liked it to last longer. "It's a great opportunity for us, not only for learning but also for meeting other people who went through the same experience of migration," he said. Christian said that when he arrived in Italy, he hated all Libyans,"But then I met a Libyan man during the course, and I realised that they're not all bad."
