This picture shows Syrian children in a school sponsored by the UN children's agency UNICEF in Turkey. Almost 450,000 Syrian children in Turkey do not go to school, the Turkish government says.
According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, Mehmet Halis Bilden, the president of the Ankara Civil Protection Department (AFAD), says that out of 960,000 Syrian minors, only 524,000 were enrolled in educational programmes this year. "I think it will be possible to have them all enrolled by the end of next year," he said, appealing to the countries of the EU to transfer all of the three billion euros promised to Ankara for assistance to refugees. According to the UNHCR, Turkey is currently hosting three million Syrians. Ankara says that 260,000 of these people live in 22 refugee camps set up along the Turkish border with Syria.
