The Italian arm of UNICEF conducted 20,000 direct interventions to assist migrant minors and youths in 2022, according to an annual report.

After a UN body determined the country's recent treatment of sub-Saharan African migrants violates basic human rights, Tunisia's government called on the international agency to use "greater objectivity."

The migrants were trying to cross over to Italy from Tunisia when their boats sank. The Coast Guard said it rescued 53 people.
