A quarter of the amount went to asylum seekers who were still waiting to be processed, while over half went to combatting the causes of forced migration. More than 1 million migrants have entered Germany since 2015.
The UNHCR is expanding its humanitarian programs in Libya. A new predeparture camp is being built for migrants on the Greek island of Chios and migrants have brought in almost 4 billion Euros in the past six years for traffickers.1
According to the Demoskopica research institute, some 650,000 migrants have landed on the coasts of southern Italy since 2011, in areas where local organized crime groups are dominant.
